Connecting mens desire to serve God with their passion for the outdoors.

- John Davis, Guide Trainee

New Wilderness Adventures began their Guide Training program in 2003. Mark began working with young men who had a passion for the outdoors and who wanted to share their faith with others. This led to our first week long Guide Training Intensive. Sixteen men joined us to learn outdoors skills and how to create environments for men to experience God and put those into practice in a weekend expedition.

Since then we have trained numerous men to go and minister through outdoor adventures, organize events, and disciple men.  Many of these men are today serving God through their passions and in new adventures.

Mark Folk and the NWA staff felt led of God in 2020 to put more time developing NWA Guides based on Luke 10:2b's message that 'the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.'

The Guide Training is inspired by Jesus' training of His disciples. Equipping them, by teaching them skills, working with them and then sending them out to do as He did. The mission of the Guide Training is to orient, teach, and release men to serve God by being witnesses and missionaries to other men.  Once guides complete their training they are then a part of our Guide Network.

Currently there are three trained guides and five in training. Our goal for 2022 is to have 12 men in the field, trained and comissioned as guides.

Once accepted into the Guide Training, you will begin a 12 month journey where you will take part in the following:

  • A 5 day guide intensive training
  • A participant led adventure accompanied by your Guide Coach
  • 12 months of mentoring with your Guide Coach
  • Monthly training video sessions
  • Bi-monthly phone calls to check-in and individual training
